  • Setting Up xLights To Run RGBW (UCS2904) Pixel Pucks

    F16V3

Our RGBW Pixel Pucks use the UCS2904 protocol with 4-channels to run the 4 different colors in the puck. Some controllers are not setup to run this by default, so we have to use xLights to output the correct data.

    - Open xLights and setup your controller (Controllers Tab)

    Name: F16V3
Note: Give it whatever name you would like.
    Vendor: Falcon
    Model: F16V3
    IP Address: 192.168.1.50
Note: Use The IP Address Of Your Controller
    Protocol: E131
Note: I have been unsuccessful running these pucks with DDP on the F16V3, so we must use E131.

    - Save the controller configuration.

    - Setup a single line prop (Layout Tab)

    Single Line -> Nodes/String: 5
Note: This will be the length of your entire string. For this example we're using 5, but yours will likely be many more.
String Properties -> String Type: RGBW Nodes
String Properties -> RGBW Color Handling:
R=G=B -> W will use the white LED when the RGB color values are close to the same. This option is best when you are using white accent lighting and want to utilize the soft white of the white specific LED.
RGB Only will never use the white LED's and will use the RGB LED's like a standard WS2811 pixel. This option is best if you would like the white's of the pucks to match the whites of your bullet and square pixels.

      - Save the layout configuration.

Note: Ignore the red lines in the Controller Connection section. We will be fixing that in the next step.

        - Go back to the controllers tab and click the visualize button.

Drag your single string prop to the port it is plugged into on your controller. In this case, it is attached to port 1.

        - Save the controller configuration.

Select your controller and upload the new configuration.

          Extra Notes:

          • Make sure you upload the configuration to your controller after changing the string layout.
          • I have not been able to get DDP to work with these pucks, but E131 works as expected.
          • Running test mode on your controller may give unexpected results. Setup a bars effect in xLights and use that to test these.
